HotHouse is heading to the eastern part of Cuba to the Guantanamo Province this June. The Chicago-Guantánamo Blues Exchange is an ongoing project of HotHouse that was originally funded when Obama normalized relations with the island in 2016. We seek to re-contextualize Guantánamo as a home of Afro-descendant culture and work against the concepts that support the “incarcel state” In 2020 our delegation will attend the bi-annual Changüí Festival as well as travel to smaller towns in the region. All inquires should be addressed via our email. Applications will be accepted through March 15, 2020. The cohort of travelers is primarily comprised of musicians and people who wish to share their cultural practices with the people of the region.
